Harley-Davidson® Road Glide® vs Indian Challenger

Harley-Davidson® Road Glide® vs Indian Challenger

Harley-Davidson® of Wesley Chapel is the leading H-D® dealership serving Tampa and the neighboring communities, and we actually have three locations in the area to meet your needs. Our dealership loves and is deeply invested in the community we serve, and we do a lot more than just sell bikes. We host rallies and other events throughout the year. Our locations host a Learn to Ride program and offer other courses. We have a leading-edge service department and a parts department that can meet your needs not just with parts but with accessories and gear as well. Of course, we also boast the largest inventory of new and pre-owned motorcycles in the region, and that includes the Road Glide®. A bike often compared to the Road Glide® is the Indian Challenger, and in that spirit, let us compare the 2021 Harley-Davidson® Road Glide® vs 2022 Indian Challenger and provide our own take on the discussion.

Harley-Davidson® Road Glide®

The 2021 Harley-Davidson® Road Glide® is one of the most popular motorcycles in the Harley-Davidson® lineup and of the most popular touring machines period. It is available in several special editions, including the Special, Limited and CVO Road Glide®, but for the purposes of this comparison, we will focus specifically on the base model, which has a chrome aesthetic and is available in three distinct colors. As you expect from a Harley-Davidson® tourer, the Road Glide® provides an upright riding position and has an advanced infotainment system, floorboards, a passenger seat and saddlebags. A notable characteristic is its frame-mounted fairing, which is what distinguishes it from the Street Glide most, and it gives you the option of RDRS, which is an advanced suite of rider-assistance technologies.

Indian Challenger

While Harley-Davidson® often makes it look easy, achieving a modern bagger that riders love is not, in fact, an easy feat. It demands a delicate balance between a bike that looks one way but feels and performs a different way. The 2022 Indian Challenger is Indian’s attempt at striking that balance. The Challenger is also the first motorcycle in the Indian lineup to feature the PowerPlus power plant, which is a liquid-cooled V-Twin. Indian makes an interesting design choice as well in that it is neither committed to the classic chrome aesthetic nor the more modern blacked-out finish. What we get instead is an attempt to balance them, and that has already become somewhat of a polarizing choice.

Harley-Davidson® Road Glide® vs Indian Challenger

V-Twin touring machines are part of the American fabric, and the first thing that jumps out in comparing the 2021 Harley-Davidson® Road Glide® vs 2022 Indian Challenger are the aesthetics. These are both good-looking motorcycles, and while Indian may be mimicking Harley-Davidson®, it does a good enough job of creating something that is different and very much its own. Is it enough to motivate a Harley-Davidson® enthusiast to cross lines? Probably not, but it will not surprise you that there are riders who love it.

The best thing about the 2022 Indian Challenger in our opinion is that it provides healthy competition for Harley-Davidson®, and that will help inspire innovations. Otherwise, the Road Glide® will be the clear winner for most enthusiasts. The look, feel and sound of the Road Glide® is still miles beyond what Indian has achieved. Network is important to touring fans, and Indian does not have anywhere near the network that Harley-Davidson® does. There are far less ways to customize an Indian than a Road Glide®. The infotainment system that comes with the Road Glide® is more feature rich and user friendly, and while Indian does have a tech package similar to RDRS, it is not as broad or refined.
