RECOMMENDED HARLEY-DAVIDSON SERVICE SCHEDULE
FIRST 1,000 MILE SERVICE:
- Check operation of electrical equipment and switches
- Check front tire pressure and inspect tread
- Check front wheel spoke tightness (if equipped)
- Inspect clutch fluid system for leaks, contact, or abrasion (for hydraulic clutch models)
- Check DOT 4 clutch fluid for moisture (for hydraulic clutch models)
- Check hand control fastener, clutch lever fastener, and master cylinder clamp fastener torque.
- Check, adjust, and lubricate throttle and clutch cables
- Replace engine oil and filter
- Check engine coolant freeze point and inspect for leaks (if equipped)
- Clean radiators or oil cooler (if equipped)
- Replace Primary chaincase lubricant
- Replace Transmission lubricant
- Inspect and clean air filter
- Check upper front stabilizer link and isolator mounting fastener torque (Sportster)
- Inspect oil lines and brake system for leaks, contact, or abrasion
- Inspect fuel lines and fittings for leaks, contact, or abrasion
- Inspect rear brake fluid levels and check for moisture
- Inspect brake pads and discs for wear
- Check front axle nut torque
- Inspect and lubricate jiffy stand
- Check, adjust, and lubricate (with Harley Lube) brake and clutch control
- Check tightness of rear wheel spokes (if equipped)
- Check rear tire pressure and tread
- Inspect and adjust drive belt and sprocket
- Check rear axle nut torque
- Inspect exhaust system for leaks, cracks, loose or missing fasteners, and heat shields
- Lubricate fuel door hinge (if applicable)
- Road test to verify component and system operation
5,000 MILE SERVICE
- Check operation of electrical equipment and switches

25,000 MILE SERVICE
Everything in the 5K but also includes:
- Adjust and lubricate steering head bearings (Big Twin)
MISCELLANEOUS SERVICE SCHEDULE
SPORTSTER:
- Replace spark plugs every 30,000 miles
- Flush brake system and replace DOT 4 fluid every 2 years or sooner if moisture content is 3% or higher
- Check battery terminal torque and clean connections annually
- Replace fuel filter element every 100,000
BIG TWIN:
- Replace spark plugs every two years or 30,000 miles; whichever comes first
- Check battery terminal torque and clean connections annually
- Inspect rear sprocket isolators for wear at each tire change
- Replace fuel filter element every 100,000
- Flush brake system and replace DOT 4 fluid every 2 years or sooner if moisture content is 3% or higher
- Replace coolant every 30,000 miles (if equipped)
