The 2025 Harley-Davidson® Road King® Special is designed for riders seeking a blend of classic bagger styling and practical touring capabilities. This model delivers performance, durability, and technology with a focus on fundamental motorcycle engineering. The 2025 Harley-Davidson® Road King® Special is equipped to meet the demands of long-distance riding and daily use, combining a strong powertrain, reliable handling, and integrated safety systems.

Iconic Blacked-Out Design with Touring Capability

The design of the 2025 Harley-Davidson® Road King® Special prioritizes functional styling and rider ergonomics. The motorcycle features a bagger-style frame without a front fairing. The bodywork includes stretched saddlebags that extend the bike’s profile while increasing storage capacity. The bags are designed to align with the bike’s exhaust system, creating a uniform lower profile. The blacked-out finish covers most components from the powertrain to the exhaust, mixing gloss and matte textures for a uniform appearance that also aids in reducing glare.

The handlebars are mini “ape hanger” style, placing the rider in an upright position. This height and angle can be adjusted to optimize rider comfort and control, especially important during extended rides. The instrument cluster is a single, analog gauge mounted on the fuel tank. This design reduces dashboard clutter and ensures the rider’s line of sight is unobstructed. The headlamp is encased in a traditional nacelle but utilizes modern LED lighting to enhance visibility with reduced power consumption.

Engine Performance and Powertrain

The core of the 2025 Harley-Davidson® Road King® Special is the Milwaukee-Eight® 114 V-Twin engine. This engine produces 95 horsepower and 122 foot-pounds of torque.

Air intake is managed by a high-performance ribbed air cleaner with an exposed filter element. This design improves airflow to the engine, increasing throttle responsiveness and maintaining consistent power output. The exhaust system features a matte black, two-into-two configuration. It also produces the distinctive V-twin rumble signature, a functional aspect of engine feedback and rider awareness.

Suspension and Handling Systems

The suspension setup on the 2025 Harley-Davidson® Road King® Special incorporates Dual Bending Valve (DBV) front forks. These forks are engineered to provide progressive damping, adapting to varying road conditions and rider input. The result is a suspension system that absorbs bumps and irregularities effectively. Rear suspension details focus on maintaining chassis stability and supporting the additional weight of the loaded saddlebags.

The mini-ape handlebars, combined with the suspension tuning, give the rider precise steering input with minimal effort. The ergonomic setup supports longer riding periods by reducing strain on the rider’s upper body and wrists.

Braking and Safety Systems

Braking performance is delivered through Brembo® calipers and rotors.

The 2025 Harley-Davidson® Road King® Special is equipped with Anti-lock Braking System (ABS). Electronic Linked Braking (ELB) distributes braking force between the front and rear wheels when the rider applies the front brake lever, or in some instances, the rear brake pedal. ELB improves balance and braking efficiency.

Additional rider safety features are available as options. These include Cornering Enhanced ABS (C-ABS) and Cornering Enhanced Electronic Linked Braking (C-ELB). Both systems account for the motorcycle’s lean angle during cornering, adjusting brake pressure to prevent loss of traction and maintain the intended path of travel. The Cornering Enhanced Traction Control System (C-TCS) reduces rear wheel spin during acceleration on various surfaces and lean angles.

Vehicle Hold Control (VHC) is an optional feature that holds the bike stationary on inclines by maintaining brake pressure after the rider releases the brake lever or pedal.

Rider Convenience and Functional Technology

The 2025 Harley-Davidson® Road King® Special comes standard with cruise control. This system allows the rider to maintain a steady speed on highways without continuous throttle input, reducing rider fatigue during long rides.

The motorcycle’s fuel capacity is six gallons, supporting extended travel between refueling stops. The bike achieves an estimated fuel efficiency of 43 miles per gallon. The stretched saddlebags offer approximately 2.5 cubic feet of storage space, providing capacity for gear, tools, or personal items without compromising the bike’s profile or balance.

A Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) is available as an option. TPMS provides real-time alerts to the rider regarding tire pressure deviations, which are critical for maintaining handling performance, safety, and tire longevity.

Lighting and Instrumentation

The lighting system incorporates Daymaker® LED forward lighting technology. LED lights provide improved illumination of the road surface, enhancing rider visibility in low-light and nighttime conditions. The LEDs are also energy-efficient and have a longer service life compared to traditional halogen bulbs.

The analog gauge design includes a clear, simple readout of speed and other essential information. The low-mounted gauge placement reduces distractions and keeps the rider’s focus on the road.
