Harley-Davidson® Freewheeler®
The Freewheeler® is the most popular trike in the Harley-Davidson® lineup. It’s also the best-selling three-wheeled motorcycle on the market, and we expect that success to continue with the 2022 Harley-Davidson® Freewheeler®. The most notable changes for the 2022 model are a light exterior refresh, the addition of electronic linked braking with ABS and a reconfiguration of the standard and available rider safety enhancements. The Freewheeler® offers riders a hot-rod style and is perfect for riding around town and navigating your local twisties. Some riders love the stripped-down nature of the vehicle just the way it is while others see it as a blank canvas upon which they can personalize their perfect trike.
This Is the Right Harley-Davidson® For
Three-wheeled motorcycles provide a different riding experience than the traditional motorcycle does. Many enthusiasts choose them and some riders make the switch because it’s more convenient. The 2022 Harley-Davidson® Freewheeler® has a reverse gear, and it offers stability, balance and handling that you don’t get from a two-wheeled motorcycle. If you’re unsure, then we highly recommend test-riding a number of different styles of two- and three-wheeled motorcycles to determine what you like. The Freewheeler® has a hot-rod attitude, and it puts the rider in an upright riding position. It also features a passenger seat, floorboards and a trunk, so the foundation is there if you want to tour with it. But this model does not have an infotainment system whereas the Tri Glide Ultra does. Some of the more popular upgrades among touring enthusiasts are a touring packing, more robust passenger seating, a rider backrest, a windshield, handlebars, heated grips and even a premium audio system. If you prefer the Freewheeler® as more of cruiser, there is a wide range of accessories for that experience as well.
Performance and Handling
The 2022 Harley-Davidson® Freewheeler® is powered by the Milwaukee-Eight® 114 V-Twin engine. This engine delivers 118 pound-feet of torque and provides plenty of acceleration and high-end power for the average rider. That said, there is headroom there that you can tap into via the available stage kits. The Freewheeler® has a reputation for sharp, agile handling, and many riders who don’t plan to tour with their trike choose the Freewheeler® because of that handling and that it’s a bit lighter than the other options. It also features lower seating and greater ground clearance than the Tri Glide Ultra, and it boasts an emulsion rear suspension that is calibrated specifically for trikes and can be adjusted by hand.
Color Options and Other Customization
As is the case with most Harley-Davidson® standard models, Vivid Black is the standard paint scheme. There are also two premium options available, and those feature a chrome aesthetic as well. Those choices are Reef Blue and a two-tone scheme that pairs Vivid Black with Midnight Crimson. Some rider safety enhancements are available as a factory option.
