About the Electra Glide® Standard
Electra Glide® is one of the most intriguing Harley-Davidson® nameplates. It played such an integral role in the development of the brand from the mid-1960s to the mid-1980s, and we can trace its history all the way back to the first FL model that premiered in the early 1940s. As the modern H-D® touring portfolio took shape, the place for the Electra Glide® was unclear at times. There were even years in which the brand did not use the name at all. But it was not a name that H-D® wanted to let go of, and in its modern incarnation, it provides an alternative to the Street Glide that speaks to many H-D® enthusiasts.
About the 2022 Electra Glide® Standard
When new enthusiasts consider the 2022 Harley-Davidson® Electra Glide® Standard in Tampa, their first question is often what is the difference between the Electra Glide® Standard and the Street Glide. After all, they are quite similar. Both feature the Grand American Touring chassis and a fork-mounted fairing. The differences really come down to budget and lifestyle. The Electra Glide® Standard is only available in a single color—Vivid Black, naturally—it does not have a passenger seat, and it does not have an infotainment system. That is perhaps the most notable difference for the average consumer.
Updates for the 2022 Electra Glide®
Almost the entire lineup has been carried forward from 2021 to 2022 with minimal changes. That is the case with the 2022 Harley-Davidson® Electra Glide® Standard for the most part. One notable change, however, is the addition of linked brakes with standard ABS. In previous years, ABS was neither included nor available. What is also noteworthy is that you can now opt for RDRS, which you could not last year. This factory-installed suite adds hill hold control, cornering-enhanced linked braking with ABS, cornering-enhanced traction control and so forth.
Characteristics and Performance
The Electra Glide® Standard delivers all the characteristics you expect from a Harley-Davidson® tourer: upright riding position, floorboards and saddlebags. This particular model has the batwing or fork-mounted fairing. As mentioned earlier, it lacks a passenger seat and an infotainment system, both of which are generally expected on modern touring machines. You can add a different seat if you wish. You could even add an infotainment system after the fact, but if you think that is likely, you are probably better off looking at the Ultra Limited, Street Glide or Street Glide Special.
This Is the Right Bike For
Harley-Davidson® touring motorcycles in general are designed for people who ride often, for long periods of time and over long distances. Since it lacks the passenger seat, this is a tourer for the rider who rides alone, but that is a rather simple change if you do not ride alone. Perhaps the biggest difference is the lack of infotainment system. If you like the idea of disconnecting and enjoy a classic touring experience, then the Electra Glide® delivers that and helps you save some money in the process.
